COLD AIR INTAKE
AFE Magnum FORCE Stage-2 Pro DRY 5R
Installation
MORE AIR = MORE POWER
The filter itself is designed open and sucks air from all around the tube to funnel in air as opposed to most panel type filters on most production vehicles that can only pull in air from within a closed in box. The tube itself is much wider than stock and resembles some sort of velocity stack as the tube goes from the filter to the engine.
DRY V. OIL
Most common aftermarket air filters have larger holes that could potentially allow debris to pass through the filter. To protect the engine, manufacturers can sometimes coat the filter in oil to close the gap in a way. This oil has sometimes come off the filter and ruined the mass air flow sensor that typically comes after the filter. So I opted for their dry filter that has been specifically designed to offer the same protection without using oil. This makes cleaning the filter (that lasts the life of the vehicle) a breeze.

MAINTENANCE
LIFETIME FILTER
NO MORE PAPER AIR FILTERS
A typical paper air filter in your stock air box should be changed every 10K miles in my book. Honestly, it can get dirty very quickly, but will depend on where you live. For example, desert areas have more small particles flying in the air as you are driving that can get stuck in the filter. The best part of this filter is that it will never need to be changed, but with regular cleanings you can just put the filter back and not have to keep changing filters.
Cleaning the AFE PRO DRY Filter is as easy as using compressed air to blow away the dirt then soaking the filter in water and dish soap. and jun run the water through the filter in an opposite direction of the airflow. Let it dry overnight (they say a few hours, but I am cautious) and then put it back.
INcreased Engine Efficiency
Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow
In a very basic sense, an engine sucks in a mixture of fuel and air, then squeezes it together aka compresses it with the piston, then it the spark plugs ignite and burn the mixture to explodes that with a bang, and finally it blows out the exhaust.
By increasing the amount of air, the larger the explosion and thus more power. This is the same reason why your car feels faster in the winter where cold air is more compressed v. in the summer where hot air is expanded and you get less molecules in the same physical space.
*TUNING the ECU will allow the car to more effectively make use of the added air.
Heat Shield
The heat shield on the intake protects the filter from being entirely heat soaked.
The design is made to create a small enclosure when the hood is closed.
While not perfect, the durable 18 gauge, powder-coated heat shield is certainly better than not having one.
