Gasket: The gasket around the top is for running the intake without the optional intake cover.
The optional intake cover would not fit with that gasket on.
I was hoping that there would be some form of gasket for the lid, but there wasn’t. Maybe while the engine is under load, the suction maintains a seal for the lid to the sidewalls of the box?
Without The Optional Cover/Lid
Noise: Without the cover, the the turbo noises simply didn’t exist with the stock box and are loud with the hood open. However, going into summer I want to avoid “Heat Soak” as much as possible. That is why I bought the optional cover/lid.
That would help the system is more or less be sealed and draw more intake air coming from the external scoops vs the hotter air from the 220 degree motor.
In the winter, however, I may opt to remove that cover!
Use the Original Screws from the Factory Box
The screws took some elbow grease to remove from the cover.
Just push and turn the screw to get it to pull through the plastic.
Little room
Take your time here, because I did not want to drop the screw
There wasn’t much room for my hands, maybe a great time to employ someone with smaller hands to aid you in getting this screw in.
Place the tube, it’s a tight fit, and screw down the collar after the frame is in place and bolted down properly.
WARNING Use the provided screws for MAF Sensor!
Box Cover 10MM Bolts
Two 10mm bolts hold down the cover.
Drivers side bolt Space
Again, be careful here, there was very little space for my hands and it took some maneuvering to make it work.
The Bad
Missing Function
The factory airbox cover had a plastic prong for this rubber grommet which held this hose away from the engine. Now it just sits there, but when I opened the hood, the wire does settle closer to the engine.
NO SLACK
The sensor wire is slightly taught and just reaches the new housing.
