BEST TIP: VERSATILITY IS KEY TO A FLEXIBLE WARDROBE
Falling in love with a piece of clothing is normal.
For me, just buying whatever caught my eye led to an eclectic collection of colors and styles that didn’t necessarily pair well with each other. I noticed that as I scaled my closet, getting ready in the morning wasn’t getting any easier.
To fix that, I started to focus on outfits. Only buying clothes if I could create at least one outfit from it.
Outfit shopping was fun, running around pairing things and giving myself license to buy more than one item at a time, but it would typically only get me one days worth of wear. Especially if the components to the outfit were very flashy or unique.
The problem I had found with outfit shopping is that I would then have to plot the time in between when I wore it last to when I could wear it again. Which after a while tended to be a lot of mental work.
Ultimately, the best thing for me has been building a collection of complimentary items that adhere to certain color pallettes which can be swapped into multiple outfits without anyone being the wiser.
For example, here is a collection of 7 different outfits using the same pair of grey chinos and navy v-neck cashmere sweater from @mottandbow
Now getting ready is much quicker, more seamless, and my wardrobe is more versatile with less items. Best yet, I don’t have to do the mental math of when did I wear this outfit last, because even the smallest variations can completely transform an outfit.
