I broke my Harbor Freight Fly Swatter, so I decided to grab a Amazon Rechargeable UV Fly Swatter.
Cheap (Harbor Freight) Fly Swatter (around $5):
Good
- Got the job done.
Bad
- Handle broke apart in my hands
- Used expensive & wasteful D batteries
- Didn’t come with a stand or mount
- Didn’t tell you how much charge was left
Amazon Rechargeable UV Fly Swatter (around $9/10):
Good
- Comes with both a stand & a wall mount w/ 3m tape
- Switchable on/off mode for safety
- Easily recharges with charge status LED indicator
- Built in night light
- Built in UV light to attract bugs
- Built in bug kill tracker keeps score of how many you zapped
- When the last mode is selected, you don’t even need to press the button, the zapper is activated full time.
- Charge lasts a decent amount of time.
- When the last mode is selected, you can leave the racquet on one of the included mounts and let it zap while you are away (be careful of children or animals when selecting where leave it on)
Bad
- When on lower charge, doesn’t have as much juice to zap like the old Harbor Freight zapper.
- Night Light has helped on occasion, but isn’t very bright
- Sometimes the flies bounce off of the mesh, get a quick zap and then keep flying. They go down on the next hit though.
- Although it is probably for safety reasons, I wish the plastic surround was more flush with mesh. Sometimes, with the racquet flush to the wall, the plastic surround prevents the fly from getting zapped
