Google TV is the new Android-based software that provides a completely new and unique viewing experience that combines all of the content across all of your apps so that you can see everything available to you all at once. It will even suggest content for apps that you do not yet have!
Chromecast vs. Roku.

The GOOD:
I do like the many apps available in the Roku universe. There are many local news channels including the local news channels for those who want to say up to date on the local news when away from that market. Honestly, I find myself primarily using the big streaming channels (Netflix, HBO, Disney+, Prime, YouTube, etc.) that are available on pretty much any device.
THE BAD:
My Roku 4K has gotten to the point where it doesn’t actually work without being physically rebooted every time I want to watch TV. The remote control that came with the unit hasn’t worked since day 1, but I was too lazy to get it replaced under warranty because I just used the phone app anyway. The Roku physically heats up so much, that I store a coaster underneath the device to allow for some heat dissipation.
CHROMECAST

The GOOD
The browsing experience is unmatched in the marketplace. Never again will I have to switch from app to app to see what to watch. Never again will I think, well that’s a good option, maybe I’ll watch that, but let me first check the 8 other streaming apps. I love the “cast” feature and always have. It makes searching for what to watch significantly easier as you can browse through content libraries straight from your phone with native UI and touch screen functionality (it also makes typing things in much easier).
THE BAD
I can no longer just plug the USB power cable directly into the TV, which may create issues for some setups. Seems like the device requires a higher power output (1.5A) and potentially because of the Google Assistant features. The remote isn’t the highest quality construction, but it works at least. The circle at the top of the remote is not touch-sensitive, but is rather a simple up, down, left, right, click style button setup hidden under a large circle. At some point, you will need to pause what you are watching and find that there is no play/pause button. No big deal, you just click the center button on the large circle, but since it’s a multifunctional button, you sometimes have to press it twice in order for what you are watching to actually pause.
