Luxurious T-Shirts Made From 100% Peruvian Combed Cotton
All 100% Cotton is not made equal
1. The Weight of Cotton
Generally, the heavier the weight, the thicker the fabric is. T-shirts are typically made with a lightweight cotton (4-6oz). Thicker cottons are used for luxury shirts. Thicker fabric is generally (with some exceptions) warmer and it will be more durable and harder wearing. The thicker it is, however, the bulkier and possibly stiffer your garment will also be.
2. Regular vs. Combed Cotton
After being harvested and cleaned, the cotton is carded and combed. Like regular cotton, the carding process separates the individual cotton fibers and pulls them all in the same direction. separates Unlike regular cotton, the combing process uses fine combing brushes to pull out the shorter fibers and impurities that are prone to fraying and breaking. The remaining combed cotton fibers are the longest, straightest, and once woven, produce a much smoother and higher quality fabric.
3. Combed Cotton is more durable
During the Combing process, the short fibers have been removed. This makes the fabric stronger as the long stands have been spun together to create a long tight thread that is less likely to break. The short fibers were the proverbial “weak link” in the chain and the combing process has removed them.
